I’ve always had a thing for historical fiction and shows set in eras way before I existed. And apparently, for my 2000s born self, the 90s now count as historical fiction. I know, wild. But truly, I find it fascinating watching a series filmed in a time when I didn’t even exist, and I marvel at the way people used to live, dress, date, and interact.
Recently, my latest obsession has been Sex and the City. Not gonna lie, I didn’t love it at first. I found the early episodes really boring, with all their relationship dilemmas I honestly couldn’t quite relate to. But the more time I spent with the girls, the more they grew on me.
So in true Carrie Bradshaw fashion, I started wondering:
where would you travel based on your favorite SATC character?
And born was this post; so this is my fun little guide- are you Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, or Samantha?
where should you travel based on your favorite Sex and the City character?

Carrie Bradshaw- New York City, Tokyo
Hate me for it or not, New York City is right where Carrie Bradshaw belongs.
It’s chaotic, messy, full of energy, and endlessly inspiring. There’s really nowhere better to write her ever so entertaining column other than sipping overpriced coffee at a cafe while people watching.
Carrie definitely feeds off the overstimulation, the accidental run-ins, and the feeling that something could happen at any moment.
Alternatively, Carrie would also eat Tokyo up.
Watching Sex and the City, I couldn’t help but marvel at her outfits in every single episode. So timeless, so chic, and a little unhinged but looking sooo good. Carrie would fit right in with Tokyo’s vintage fashion obsession. I can already imagine her hopping between vintage shops, trying on ridiculous heels, and fully aware she’s about to max out her credit card but doing it anyway.
Actually, Carrie is the one who got me into the vintage bags and shoes rabbit hole and I love her for it.

Miranda Hobbes- Berlin
Miranda Hobbes, the intellectual feminist, somewhere between knowing what she wants in life and having no clue what she’s doing. She doesn’t travel just for aesthetics and instagram photos, she travels to understand the world.
Miranda likes cities with history, structure, and substance; places that don’t need to try too hard to impress you. Miranda would fit right into Berlin. Berlin is intellectual without being pretentious, historical yet modern, and political but not overwhelming.
Here in Berlin, Miranda would spend her days exploring museums and having unexpectedly deep conversations with strangers who challenge her worldview. And she would love it. And who knows, maybe a romantic fling with a tall German might be what’s waiting for her here.

Charlotte York- Florence
Being a total artsy queen, Charlotte travels with a carefully planned itinerary and a very clear vision of how things should look. She believes in romance, tradition, and the idea that some places are simply meant to be beautiful.
In Florence, Charlotte would spend her days admiring art in museums and galleries, secretly hoping that something magical might happen or she might accidentally bump into her prince charming.
Florence speaks Charlotte’s language: art, history, love, and the belief that fairytales might actually exist if you believe in them hard enough.

Samantha Jones- Bangkok
We love a free spirit- someone who knows what they want out of life and is a successful business woman, is there anything Samantha can’t do? Coming up with this list of destinations, it was clear from the beginning that the only place Samantha belongs is Bangkok, no matter the vibes or the pun 😉
Samantha would thrive in the heat, holding fresh tropical cocktails at the most exquisite rooftop bars, staying at the most luxurious hotels. When it comes to vibes, Bangkok is unapologetic and indulgent: bold, strong flavors and absolutely no shame in wanting more.
Samantha travels to feel alive, to light up the fire within her, and Bangkok is just the place for her.
Honestly, I think the hardest question of all might be- who is your favorite character? I love all four of them and cannot decide for the life of me. Carrie with her sometimes irresponsible reasonings, Miranda’s realism, Charlotte’s love for life, and Samantha’s burning passion- how could one possibly choose?
Let me know who your favorite character is and what you think!
Until next time,
Emi
